Who We Are

We are two small, dynamic charities working to make critical improvements to the treatment and care of adults and children living with Cancer and Leukaemia. For the last 20 years, we have been raising vital funds for cancer patients across South London, North Kent and East Surrey. Through a variety of fundraising initiatives, the charity has helped to transform healthcare and services in our local communities. We provide assistance to oncology patients of all ages and staff teams at The Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH), King’s College Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, Croydon University Hospital, The Royal Marsden and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, as well as providing much needed oncology support to children and families. We work directly with the medical teams on the cancer and leukaemia wards so that the money raised is used where it is needed most.

With years of experience in business and the charity sector – serving on various boards and committees including The Sportsman’s Aid Society, later to become The Teenage Cancer Trust and Young Epilepsy, Michael knew he had the expertise to make change. Following his successful treatment in 2005, Michael decided to set up a charity – The Chartwell Cancer Trust – named after the Unit where he was nursed back to health. The charity swiftly garnered a groundswell of support locally to fund the additional much needed Healthcare Assistant post. This act of solidarity and support was just the beginning – marking the start of a very special relationship and a commitment to the Chartwell Cancer and Leukaemia Unit that remains just as strong today. This relationship not only gave the charity its name but has also defined its long-term purpose to make a critical difference to cancer care in all it does.

A huge part of our fundraising is through our charity shops which are located in Selsdon, Tatsfield and Peckham. Our services are available across these areas as well as a wide radius throughout Greater London and the South-East. The proceeds from your donations help us to improve facilities, fund clinical research and capital projects, enhance staff levels, as well as to deliver a range of support to young oncology patients and their families in our local communities. We are a small charity with a big commitment and every penny we raise is used where it is needed most.

Our charity shops allow communities to recycle and clean unwanted clutter and items whilst making change in the lives of others. Collections are FREE for all items resold or recycled ensuring waste is kept to a minimum.
